Tenderness, warmth, gentleness, softness – all that in pic #1 . It could be only between mom and her kid! Wonderful post!

My, how Elska has grown! The love in these shots overflows.... Your question about the identity of 'mother' is a profound one. I'm mindful of my sons gaining their identity, as this happened my identity seemed to take a back seat. No longer Patty, rather Bryan's mom or Bryce's mom. I was now seen as a 'mom' doing only 'mom' things. Attending soccer, baseball, football games, cross country matches, working in the classrooms at school, leading Cub Scout and Boy Scouts. As they matured into independent young men, another shift, now a wonderful blend of Patty and mom. Still the same 'mom' but with more time available for me to do the things which make up my personal identity. Now their friends see me as a photographer, a trekker, a traveler and still the very best...a mom. As you can see, your question sparked a cord within. I've truly enjoyed the movement in my identity.

The last pic is beautiful and I am glad you put it back in so we could see it. I love her coat! Beautiful set for Mother's Day. I think for some women, their role does become 'Mother' and maybe they feel they lose the essence of themselves because all their attention is on the child, or perhaps that others only see the Mother as 'Mother' and not anything else...I don't have any children, so maybe I am speaking out of term. I think Patty has described it well...
