the FIRST mother's day

looking at gabrielle

happy mother's day, bella

I had trouble deciding what to keep in this set. On Anamaria's suggestion, I put back the last picture in the green coat.

Elska slept for quite a while in the cafe. I was thinking about the identity of 'mother', and how the sentimental version of the role obscures the identity of the person. I asked her about this. Gabrielle feels like she is herself - the same person as before, now loving and caring for Elska.

(some of my favorite pictures I ever took were of Elska's birth, so I'm glad that I'm here to take pictures of the first mother's day.)

p.s. - in just a few days, Elska will be traveling a long way to meet her maternal grandmother for the first time. I get choked up thinking about that.

Emma The last pic is beautiful and I am glad you put it back in so we could see it. I love her coat!

Beautiful set for Mother's Day.

I think for some women, their role does become 'Mother' and maybe they feel they lose the essence of themselves because all their attention is on the child, or perhaps that others only see the Mother as 'Mother' and not anything else...I don't have any children, so maybe I am speaking out of term. I think Patty has described it well...
