Lee Lesser

2008.05.29

this flower was the first poppy to bloom in someone's garden, and she cut it to bring it for me - such a gift! On my balcony, a little breeze rose and fell, lifting and lowering the petals, like breathing, and in the pause between breaths, I took this picture.

Lee Klinger Lesser

The simplest things are the hardest to learn. Mind skips ahead "I know that already". Mind races away "I have important things to worry about". A thousand distractions wait in line for their turn to invade the stillness.

A room full of people have gathered out of a longing to be more completely alive. A room full of people each experience the resistance, the distractions, the obstacles to their awareness.

Lee came to Toronto from San Francisco to teach a way to arrive fully into each living moment through Sensory Awareness - a very difficult thing to teach and to learn. The teacher's own embodiment of awareness is at the heart of her ability to guide others. Teaching the simplest things requires art and subtlety.

Many years of meditation, Sensory Awareness work and living life went into Lee's ability to guide us in explorations of consciousness. Her steady, warm and patient voice was a powerful support to return again and again to awareness. The simplest acts of sitting, standing, lifting, offering and receiving became gateways into deep experience. I felt myself arriving more fully into my own life.

Throughout the weekend, Lee returned to stories about her teacher, Charlotte Selver, and to stories of Charlotte's relationship with her teacher, Elsa Gindler. One thing that stands out for me is how sensory awareness is grounded in the experience of support - how we are supported by the ground underneath us, and how we can be supported by each other.

Lindyart wow I love the whole sensory awareness ... I think I want to even look more into to work with special needs ..although some of the therapist I worked with were using some.. these are beautiful candid shots of her .. 1 is my fav,, and 2 evoked emotion in me when I enlarged it.... flowers rarely do that ...even though I love them.. I would love to have 2 hanging on my wall forever , it conveys hope and magic:)!!!

Emma I saw this post 'pre-site crash', however I didn't get chance to comment. I adore your shots of the poppies, especially #4, which reminds me of so many different things; an apple, a skirt...

Lee comes across through your words and shots as a beautiful free spirit; such a wonderful soul. I really enjoyed viewing her site and there is a quote in there I have memorised about living in the moment...I love that.

Sheldon Interesting how each shot of Lee is a moment of listening but so varied and active. Captiving selection. The flower in #6 - like a sea anemone - just delightful.
