from a one-man show, ASSALAAMU `ALAYKUM (PEACE BE UPON YOU), created and performed by Jon-Paul Khouri. It will be performed this week as part of the
30th Rhubarb Festival of new works for theatre. Feb. 4 to Feb. 8 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in Toronto.
This work is an intense portrayal of an Iraqi immigrant in Canada - a man wracked with anger and filled with tenderness. I won't say much more about the work, since the artist's description in the program is somewhat mysterious:
"Because we need each other, we believe in one another, and I know that we're going to uncover what's sleeping in our souls. Who cares about a description? Take a chance on someone. What, you haven't got 25 minutes to spare?"
