Happiness
So early it's still almost dark out.
I'm near the window with coffee,
and the usual early morning stuff
that passes for thought.
When I see the boy and his friend
walking up the road
to deliver the newspaper.
They wear caps and sweaters,
and one boy has a bag over his shoulder.
They are so happy
they aren't saying anything, these boys.
I think if they could, they would take
each other's arm.
It's early in the morning,
and they are doing this thing together.
They come on, slowly.
The sky is taking on light,
though the moon still hangs pale over the water.
Such beauty that for a minute
death and ambition, even love,
doesn't enter into this.
Happiness. It comes on
unexpectedly. And goes beyond, really,
any early morning talk about it.

The lighting is great in 3 and I love the candid nature of 5 and 9. The writing is beautiful.

Remarkable photographs. The first one is so captivating that I found myself struggling not to scroll up to view it again and again. Something about the composition and colour contrasts draw and lead the eyes into and all over it. The shot of the steps make me wish that I were standing on them with my hands pressed against the walls, feeling out the proportions of the enclosure, which is at once confining and welcoming. That poor crab, however, appears to be in mortal terror - the shot is aesthetically superb, if morally dubious!

That first one. Each flower a tear. Is the bush half empty or the carpet half finished? The bush will grow more with each cycle to shed for the carpet. Do we play a role in the middle admiring the new flowers or helping them shed or both?
