Today the weather was beautiful AGAIN... so this morning I pulled out my old friends... my rollerblades. So I know you are wondering, how does my title fit??... Here goes... this might be long so I apologize in advance!....
As a child I pretty much grew up on my rollerblades... and slowly stopped using them as I got older. I brought them when I moved into a place before my second year of university with some friends, but never used them as they were so old and the wheels so bad, I knew it was a horrible idea. Finally as I was finishing my third year, the sports store I was working at was having a massive sale and I finally purchased a brand new pair of rollerblades.
It was perfect timing since at that point in my life I was at a very low point. I didn't like who I was becoming and regretted a great deal of things I had been doing. That spring as I got onto my rollerblades I could feel a change in myself. When I was on my rollerblades... it was like I could collect my thoughts and make sense of things. I felt free, and being able to move at speeds that my body was determining and pushing myself to... with my MP3 player blasting... I could shut the world out and find myself. As cheesey as this might sound... I will say that rollerblading saved me from becoming something else. Rollerblading became my life that summer, which was nice as when I wasn't at work I was alone a lot.... and it was also the summer my mother was diagnosed with cancer. It allowed me the chance to be able to escape and lift my mood. That summer I was in the best shape of my entire life... it was easy because I lived by the beach and there was a path that headed right downtown... I often found myself out on my rollerblades for an hour or more.
Last summer I moved home... and with less accessibility to a great rollerblading location my hobby started to die away again. This summer I vow to put them to use more often again... in other words, once again ignite the love affair I had with my rollerblades :)

Thanks for reading :)

Queen911 Great series. I like the flower on your toe (laughter). Glad to hear that you are having a love affair. It's funny how something so small can save you from you. Keep it up. I like who you are, and what you are becoming ... A friend.

mrutherford22 I LOVE THIS POST!!! This is exactly how I feel about running! You have inspired me Kerry! I may need to try something like this with my running shoes. ;)

I'm so glad that you are determined to get back together with rollerblading ;) You two make such a great pair! It really is a wonderful sport. I wish I had a better path closer to me. Love #1 and 3...and of course the tootsies!
