Duck de Chine

2010.09.17

We had a wonderful dinner with the Dela Cruzes and Beijing visitor, Mr. Noy Dy-Liacco, retired Communications Director of Nestle Phils. He is still connected with the company as a consultant and is here on a business trip. Instead of going to Da Dong however, we went to Duck de Chine, for roast duck. It is also considered as one of the best in Beijing as their roast duck is really lean and flavorful. The resto itself is part of 1949 - The Hidden City, a former factory and research facility of Beijing Machinery and Electric Institute which was converted into a dining and entertaining complex in 2008. Hence the ambience is industrial (beams exposed, brick walls, office-like hallways) but very chic! Will definitely go back to try out the other dining places!

I must say I really liked the roast duck which for me is a tiny bit better than Da Dong. The chefs roast it in an open fire for 30 minutes longer than usual to remove the excess duck fat.
