One of Beijing's famous pedestrian shopping streets. Great place to see a mix of western and eastern shops. International brands Haagen-Dazs, Zara, Uniqlo, Starbucks, H&M etc are all here together with time-honored Chinese brands like Quanjude and Douyichu. We went here on the eve of the Yuanxiao Festival (also because it was a Sunday) hoping to see and be able to experience the lighting of the lanterns. Yuanxiao is the 15th and last day of the Lunar New Year celebrations. Fail! We're a day early! Turns out the lantern lighting is done on the actual day itself. No matter, we enjoyed the sights despite the -8 degree temp. Brrrr!
