Introducing me......
2012.05.25
Welcome to my photoblog and let me introduce myself, that’s me in the blue (not the most flattering photo but it was really cold last week) and that’s a camera shy barn owl.
Anyway, I’m Dannii, originally from London but I now live in Northampton although I still commute back to London for work everyday. Ever since a young child I have always had a camera and when I upgraded from my 35mm SLR to a Canon EOS 400D SLR I joined flickr. The rose in my profile pic was actually one of the first photos I took with it and was really well received both by friends and flickr. I recently decided to join PB for a number of reasons. Although flickr meets me storage needs, I love the way I can organize my albums into sets and collections and I love the way the groups work but in all honesty I don’t think it is working for me in other aspects. PB has appealed to me in that it is a blog, I can post pictures up of my life or whatever has interested me on that occasion and make it more focused,
Due to my lifestyle photography has taken a back seat lately, which I hate. Basically I get up at 05.50 in the morning, get washed and dressed and walk to the train station and am there by 6.30. I rarely take a lunch break (not going into the reasons here) and am not usually home until 18.30. If that day wasn’t tiring enough my partner has been partaking in triathlons for nearly 3 years and since moving in in January has made me want to exercise more to lose some weight (please note he has not put pressure on me, it's all me who wants to get fitter and lose weight and seeing him be so active has made me want to as well). So Monday and Tuesday evenings I’m usually doing a yoga DVD or playing dance games on the X-box whilst he is out for a run, so by the time we have eaten it can be 20.30. Wednesday was always my gym night anyway but my friend convinced me to go to another class, so we do dance fusion (Zumba-ish) and then yoga, so I’m not back until maybe 21.15 and Thursday is swimming night. So as you can see, work and fitness gets in the way leaving only the weekend for photography. I considered joining some 365 challenges and although I’m sure I could take a photo every day I prefer quality over quantity. I am currently on my 3rd attempt at a 52 week challenge. I joined a group on flickr when it first got set up, it was small and a great community feel and there weren’t any themes. That seemed fine at first as it meant I wasn’t restricted and could base it on my life. However after 40 something weeks I got photographers block and didn’t complete it. Last year I didn’t get far at all but life stuff got in the way. This year I am going much better, I would prefer a themed project but all the groups with theme lists were either full or based in other countries so the themes didn’t correspond with seasons and events in the UK.
Wow I rattled on a bit there, not intentional I assure you. Basically I want to use PB in a very different way to Flickr. In just one day I have seen how great the community is, I have had helpful advise and been invited to join a scavenger hunt, which I hope to take part in at least a couple of times a month. I want to use this not just as a showcase of my photos but for the photos to have some relevance to my life and for people on here to get to know me a little. I’m not going to say any more about me now but please feel free to look at some of my older posts as they have some of my older photos that I like the most.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to a making lots of new friends on here.
