two young bulls next door

2008.05.09
Rutting bulls fight next door, taken with old Sony Mavica in 1999. Under the category: Wish I'd thought to write that, JuliaGotz comments that this looks like "bad mood Tuesday."

As I wait for breakup season to end, I decided to post my favorite, uncropped photo taken with a Sony Mavica in September, 1999. I was a bit innocent back then, and far too bold -- walking quite close to the cantankerous bulls. (No zoom -- fixed focal length. The Sony Mavica wrote to a removable diskette. I'm not sure it qualified as a digital.)

September is the rutting season here (for moose), and these two bulls became territorial in our neighbor's yard late one evening. Wish I'd had another camera.

But what a sight. So glad I didn't know not to get too close. In fact, an old friend visited in 1997, and we actually had him move in closer to the moose for the photo. (He still lives.)

GnatBytes Great shot. We had a Sony Mavica at work years ago, so I know what you mean. I guess the bulls were too occupied beating each other up to notice you.

jagungal A fine shot Jan. I'm actually reading a book about 19thc exploration iof norther Labrador, in which caribou figure heavily. Same animal or different? Tanks for the boost — a bit over the top, but very kind of you!

Cherax Yes, you probably wouldn't get a second chance with on of these. I think they were a bit preoccupied though.

SheriJ Oh I am sooooo jealous!! Sillly me would have moved in close to! I know no fear when it comes to wildlife!! My husband and I have been know to track a Cougar with a sling shot and a few ball bairings and a Canon Rebel XTI with a 70mm-300mm lens. The Cougar ate 3 of my cats so a Mom has no fear when she is looking for her babies!!
