Everyone around me has been talking about this "infestation" of Cicadas that they have around them and I kept thinking to myself "what infestation"? Well I was talking to one of my friends about it and apparently there are two types of Cicadas, the 15 year and the 17 year Cicada. They mate and then bury themselves into the ground or in a tree and stay there for either 15 or 17 years then crawl out to mate again, thus how they get their name. The reason we haven't seen them around us is because our neighborhood is less than 10 years old so it looks like in another 15 years we will be lucky enough to experience the swarm. With Bailey around though, the Cicadas don't stand a chance! I could hardly keep her away from him long enough to take these pictures.

I think I've only seen one of these once in my life. But they're one of my favourite bugs, not for how they look, but for how they sound - they mean HOT weather to me :) McMommy · 2011-06-05: 22:00
