Last night, the rock music

This venue is way outside the Beltway, so the best thing to do if you live in the city is to set out before rush hour really gets under way. Since rush hour around here essentially starts at 4:00, that strategy gives you lots of time to hang out at the venue (Merriweather Post Pavilion, an outdoor amphitheater) and drink beer and, say, take photographs of ants.

No idea what the hell this is, but I sort of like it.

Other folks who decided they'd rather spend the 2 hours before the show hanging out at the venue rather than sitting in traffic. (Annotated)

The opener, Best Coast. Competent band with nice buzzy music and a fun, energetic singer. But lyrics not really to my taste - I prefer ponderous intellectual crap, and they were singing about boys.

Went with R to see, of course, the Decemberists - ok, I know that of the 6 shows I've seen over the past 3 years, 4 of them have been the Decemberists. What can I say. I'm rather fond of them. It was a great show - worth suffering through work all day on 5 hours' sleep.

i think the ant picture is very cool! (i am going to "favourite" it) and as for the last one? I think I see a little robot peeking up in the lower left corner.....

ah, Merriweather. Figured you'd be going to that show. I'm free from the shackles of HBO at the end of today. We should get together next week sometime...

That is a monster ant - ours are not nearly as serious looking. And the last one looks like Batman!
