portals of freedom

2008.03.01
what doors will you open today?
We feel free when we escape - even if it be but from the frying pan into the fire. ~Eric Hoffer

or shut ?

what roads will you take ...?

will you see the light right in front of you?

will you see more than just what is front of your eyes?

where does it all lead?

I want out of the door...

Who speaks of liberty while the human mind is in chains? ~Francis Wright, 1828

I've been writing some about breaking free and out of the mold...lately I have seen so clearly how some of my past and things that have happen and been said to me tried to mold me into someone that was other's people's vision of me.. I realize now that life is too short to be anyone other than yourself and maybe alot of you already know this but ahhhhhh alot of it is oh so subtle ... in small ways and big ways we learn often to supress who we really are because we want to conform or we are afraid or don't know who we are ...

wow it's so freeing to begin to break free of all that and a little terrifying too :)

These shots represent breaking free, freedom in my life ....

Liberty: One of Imagination's most precious possessions. ~Ambrose Bierce

Freedom is the oxygen of the soul. ~Moshe Dayan

etodd80 Great shots. I like the colors in #1 and the tower #4 is great! Is the door on #1 artificially colored?
etodd80 · 2008-02-24: 11:48

life is way too short to not be who you want to be! isn't always easy, but definitely worth it.

Carley A terrific set, Lindy...not just for the photos but also for the thoughts that you expressed and provoke. This "read" to me like one of those small inspirational books, and would make a very good one! You go, girl, and savor your freedom!!
Carley · 2008-02-24: 13:31
PaulGraham powerful yet again
PaulGraham · 2008-02-24: 13:46
oldbabe Oh, I'll go anywhere that blue door takes me!!! I love that door!

As for breaking free, being you...good for you! I learned long ago to like myself very much, thank you. And, if no one else likes me...well, I will be alone with someone I like just fine...me, myself, and I! (But thankfully, a few people do like me...at least I think they do ;-) )

I like Dr. Suess's words...“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” I try to buy a book for each new niece or nephew and write that in there for them. Maybe they will learn that early?
oldbabe · 2008-02-24: 14:01

Peche “The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage.”
- Thucydides

I always think of the Ancient Greek writers when I think about breaking free, of freedom and it's concept - simply because, when I was younger, and struggling as you have with all the ideas of what you think others want from you and want you to be, my Dad wrote this quote down for me in a card. Courage to be yourself is the hardest courage of all to muster... and true, a lot of us do already know this, but how many of us actually live it?
Your pictures are beautiful, the first being my favourite, for the subtext of the door (the colour, the eye's attention wanting to open it, to break free) and for the contrast.
Very thought-provoking and meaningful post, Lindy, and congratulations to you for having the courage to expose and open yourself up to who you are.
xo

Madoc Great thoughts. Very important to always keep that in mind. It has become so easy to forget who we truly are and to deeply feel what we are here for, these days...

I really love the first shot.
Fantastic colors.
Madoc · 2008-02-24: 20:29

Marckil I agree; stunning set. Great work!!

focussed I find this post to be a departure from what we have seen of you in the past. Starkly contrasting. Sharper, bolder images. I guess it ties in perfectly to the mood of your words. Poetic in every sense of the word.
More power to you in moving forward in the quest to be you....
focussed · 2008-02-25: 04:13

bamommy Excellent post, Lindy. I totally agree with every word. I think alot of times women especially do so much for others we forget about ourselves. It feels good to break free and get to know who you really are and what you want out of life. Great job.

bettyluvsduncan Oh! I'm speechless. I have to think about what to write! First I'll say that I love all of the photos, but the first one takes my breath away. It looks like it could be in a magazine, like Country Living. I love how you put it all together, putting your feelings into pictures. Wow. Thank you for your inspiration!
bettyluvsduncan · 2008-02-27: 01:17
