Yesterday was the 2nd race in the summer series and with the nice weather, how could I refuse?
In raw numbers I was very middle of the pack again, 11th of 21 drivers (last race in the
spring series, ended up 16th of 31) but when they adjusted times based on street tires, my placing climbed to 4th overall (last time was 8th overall). Nice. Very nice. Apparently they were stunned I didn't adjust tire pressures ;) My last couple of laps I added some air to my fronts and hit my best time of the day, notwithstanding the lap I butchered and took out a bunch of cones, dragging one to the finish box. Next time I'll bring my own air compressor. Learn as you go. There's another race this upcoming weekend, weather permitting I'll be there!
Something I learned yesterday talking with one of the veterans is we were talking how the sidewalls on the front tires on the GTI got chewed up after the spring race and he said generally speaking 40 and 45 series profile street tires aren't worth crap on a track. There isn't enough sidewall to support the stress so they flex too much and you end up with the sidewall on the pavement. He said next time you see a racecar whether it be a F1, Indy, Nascar, Rally car, etc., notice how they never run super low profile tires because they just won't hold up. There ya go, knowledge is power.
