You know, the first images of the Earth to be broadcast from that mission in 1968 changed human thinking and behavior beyond comprehension. The metanarrative was being torn asunder by the civil rights movement in America, women's liberation movement, the student revolution in France the worker's revolution in Italy, Mohammod Ali as the world champion and a million other things...but the single most profound and influential moment was that picture of the Earth being shown to millions of people. It changed all human perception and concept of ourselves and identity like nothing has ever done before or since. This was the first time ever anyone on the planet had seen the planet as anything other than lines on paper or as a globe with no reference to space.
