Desert Orchid

2008.04.24
Bigger is better.

Actually I have no idea what it is and don't think I should spend the time trolling the internet to find out right now. I just thought the shape was so similar to an orchid that I would call it a desert orchid. I found this one on my secret trail, in an area that gets some water. I also saw them on the side of the road in the Quebradas last spring after a rain storm. Man, I wish it would rain.

Anyway, they're fairly small. The flowers are about the size of a small coin, and the whole plant is only 3-4 inches tall.

moonofthewild Beautiful flower and pic! I think they might be a type of Clarkia. I probably spelled that wrong.

oldbabe How pretty. It does look like an orchid. And how nice that you have a secret trail! Wish I could send you some rain from here. We are at flood stage and it is raining again today.
