I think that part of the tragedy was that people did identify his hate and pain some time ago, in several different settings and situations. But nobody seemed able to do anything either to help or to protect.....

These are very emotional pictures that demonstrate the power art has to relay meaningful messages. Ca démontre aussi la véritable puissance que peuvent avoir les mots sur la pensée des individus.

There's so much to wonder about. How can we identify and help people with mental illness? When will the states recognize that allowing the purchase of automatic weapons doesn't make any sense? So much to think about —

Thanks for this posting. The older I get, the more offended by violence I am, whether it be by individuals or by nations. I too am saddened by this event, and it dimishes us all. And while the current movie 300 is supposed to be great visual spectacle, I won't watch it because of the violence it portrays, perhaps even glorifying it. Solving the world's problems with a sword or a bomb is not the way. But don't lose heart about humans. Think of the wonderful people you know, and the inspirational things they do.

Thank you for your genuine words and sharing your thoughts. When senseless crimes like this happen I think of my grandchildren what schools will be like then. Possible like airports were one is harassed when taking a flight to see Family go on holiday etc. However you are right there is always good and kindness one finds to concentrate on. Hope is what is left at the end of a catastrophe like this hope and forgivingness.

I agree with Shamana and photopoet...I think the key is not to accept complacency. When someone says or does something inappropriate, it is our responsibility to call them on it, to vote them out, to say no. It can be exhausting, but we can't just stand back and say "it's them".

very great post! In today's society, people do not take responsibility for their actions. Senseless murders of innocent people is wrong whether committed by a madman or a group for a political or religious cause. Only through personal responsibility and strong community involvement can society exist and evolve.
