Paradise "Water"

2007.05.12

I just returned from a wonderful trip to Arizona were I hike with a dear friend in and out of the Havasu Canyon. I took over one thousand pictures on this ten day trip deleted half and now are left with what I consider presentable photos to share and post.

What a place... what colours... a paradise just indescribable all I can say is a so very photos genic place.
I will add some exerts of my travelogue so to explain the environment and people of the Havasupai Canyon
I don’t want to overwhelm Family friends and members from the photoblog so will post a series of my pictures over the next days.

Havasu Canyon hike and campThe Havasupai Reservation consists of plateau country, dissected with deep, scenic canyons characteristic of the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River. Notable geographic features include "The Great Thumb," Long Mesa, and Tenderfoot Mesa, which converge on the Coconino Plateau at the south end of the reservation.
Havasu Canyon now the permanent home of the Havasupai Indian Tribe is internationally known for its blue green water and spectacular water falls adorned with travertine columns, shelves and skirts. Topography of the plateau areas varies from rolling, gentle slopes, to escarpments of outcrops of the Kaibab Limestone.
The population for the Havasupai Tribe is 639 with a median age of 24.8 years. The largest employer of the tribal members on the reservation is the Tribe. The main occupation of individual members is packing and working for tribal enterprises (tourism). The Havasuw Baaja, draw their strength from the land, which is sacred.

The Canyon's allure is the blue-green waterfalls that captivate and enchant many people around the world. These waterfalls are located beyond the village and can be seen and heard as you hike down to the Campgrounds. The beautiful blue-green water cascades over three major waterfalls: Navajo (located 1 ½ miles from the village), Havasu (another ½ mile) and Mooney Falls (2 miles). The water temperature of about 70 degrees remains relatively constant throughout the year. It's high mineral content and carbonate precipitate account for the pools and natural dams. The floods of some years ago destroyed many of these natural dams, but year by year they are being reformed.

budrons very nice shots and place. It reminds me of Grand Canyon when I went there with Hatch company river rafting for 6 days, it was 20 years ago (april 1987) but it seems yesterday. one day we went hiking in a secondary canyon (the name I can't remember) and at the end there were water falls like in stairs shape and a big natural pool where we had to dive, Wonderful place, thanks for turning me on this image of natural US parks which I love.
