Churchill, Manitoba in Canada is called the "polar bear capital of the world". It is estimated that there are about 15,000 polar bears in northern Canada, and about 300 of them pass by or through the town of Churchill in the fall (September to November).

Did you know that despite appearances to the contrary, the polar bear's fur is not white. Each hair shaft is pigment-free and transparent with a hollow core. The bears look white because the hollow core scatters and reflects visible light, just as ice and snow does.

I love Polar Bears, they are so majestic and powerful, although I am sure I wouldn't like to meet one face to face. :)

Amazing. You must have had a long lens. They are, of course, extremely dangerous, especially with cubs. So sad to know they are fading from the earth. This is a tragedy that is, I believe, unstoppable.
