This is also known as a butterfly bush.
We've had to cut back a large buddleia tree at the bottom of the garden to make way for some new fencing but we left enough for the bees and butterflies.

We have a butterfly bush in the center of a small bed near our patio, and cut it back severely last year because it was consuming most of the space. It is doing nicely this year, and didn't seem to mind the "trim."

yes..they grow pretty much out of control sometimes..I have one in my garden that has obviously been HUGE at some point in the past ..I have it manageable at the moment x Lovely photos
