end of a journey

2007.10.12
Salmon in full spawning colors ... taken today 10/12/2007.

I hesitated to include this shot in the set. This is an unfortunate reality of a salmon's life. They swim thousands of miles avoiding predators & anglers to perpetuate the species, and this is it how it ends.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are spawning salmon from a local creek here in Washington. The salmon spend several years in the oceans and eventually head back to their natal streams; often laying their eggs within a few feet of where they were born. It's critical that we continue to provide them with excellent spawning habitat and clean waters!

mattandbranson I am sad after seeing #4! Poor fishy! =P I love how colorful #2 is. It is hard to make a fish pretty!

pattyb Well if you think about it, it's not just the salmon that ends up that way! The first three are gorgeous!!

These remind me of watching them spawn in Alaska...

Madoc I'm glad that you included that last shot 'cause that's what's life's about and there is no good reason to ignore that. And #2 is very beautiful.

Gallone Nothing wrong with showing the entire cycle of the wonderful Salmon.
remember: DON'T DO DRUGS, DON"T EAT FARMED SALMON!

Salmon are a sign of a healthy eco-system. Their survival is of utmost importance.

emilith9 WARNING:
#4 is not so good to look at while eating

sparkylu25 Great shots, if you're watching tv while eating, don't watch mike rowe on dirty jobs, counting the dead fish. If you've seen it, you know what I mean.
