So as to not offend any bloggers here, please click to enlarge only if you are so inclined! Likewise, I shot this one purposely with a faster shutter speed to appease those who don't like water to appear like milk! I'm so PC!

And for those of you who like myself, want to see some motion and movement to the water and like the silky water look (I drug the shutter a bit on this one) This one is for you!

The face of the river, in time, became a wonderful book . . . which told its mind to me without reserve, delivering its most cherished secrets as clearly as if it had uttered them with a voice. And it was not a book to be read once and thrown aside, for it had a new story to tell every day.

Mark Twain

aknor Really stunning, Mat, I love the second one...the composition is just perfect! The quote is very soothing, too, and suites the photo well. Another enjoyable post...thanks for all of your efforts!!

merin1011 I L-O-V-E the second picture. So beautiful and peaceful, but with the rushing water too.... awesome!
merin1011 · 2008-01-09: 14:44
eljapa Another great one Mat, i like esp the first one. The high (straight:-)) horizon and the color in the front. Love the way you can watch along the river to the mountains. I always enlarge your pics i would be suprised if anyone should make a comment about that??
eljapa · 2008-01-09: 14:54
signsnwonders Rivers are wonderful and always different..great quote. Both photos are beautiful but I like the feeling of flowing with the river in #1.
signsnwonders · 2008-01-09: 15:05
Andrea67 very nice
Andrea67 · 2008-01-09: 15:09
bamommy Cool shots. I like #2. You can actually see the current moving along the river.
bamommy · 2008-01-09: 15:34
tbranscum Oh wow, I want to take pictures there! I always love your pictures. The second is my pick but both are beautiful!
tbranscum · 2008-01-09: 15:38
lexlevans what if i like both!!! i guess i'm extra satisfied by this post :-) i like #1 best though because of how far back the perspective goes! great work, mat!
lexlevans · 2008-01-09: 15:47
emilith9 I must say, I am falling in love with number 2 the more I look at it. Everything about it is just great...the background with the snow, trees, and mountains...the rushing river, and my favorite - the nice, colorful rocks. =)
emilith9 · 2008-01-09: 15:57
sunshineand i like them both

sunshineand · 2008-01-09: 16:10
vterezia my favorites #1,#2 !!
vterezia · 2008-01-09: 16:17
focussed #2 has just the right amount of movement. I really love the perspective on #1 but 2 has so much to look at! Please tell me that gorgeous scenery isn't right on your door step?! So jealous.
focussed · 2008-01-09: 16:23
mowestlan They both are great shots and make me feel like any stress in my system is flowing right down river....beautiful.
mowestlan · 2008-01-09: 16:49
soldotnamanda If I were you, I would enlarge the 2nd one and hang it somewhere in your house that you want to feel at peace. I would want to look at that (large) EVERYDAY. It is gorgeous. It's a fav.
soldotnamanda · 2008-01-09: 16:52
kangshung Beautiful shots, especially the first - the composition really sucks you in down to the distant mountains! You must have been standing in the creek?
kangshung · 2008-01-09: 18:37
storytaylor speechless. wonderfully dome
storytaylor · 2008-01-09: 18:58
youlookmahvelous Lovely motion, it is funny that you mentioned the shutter speed and the water looking like milk. Mybigbackyard and I were talking of this very thing not long ago. I have seen some gorgeous landscape shots which I thought were ruined because the water did not appear like water, but I digress. These are beautiful and congratulations the second one is perfect as well.
youlookmahvelous · 2008-01-09: 20:19
dkelly this second image has a wonderful composition for me. i love the depth and the feel of this.

peregol Bellissime foto. La prima mi piace particolarmente per l'inquadratura che hai fatto
peregol · 2008-01-10: 01:48
jet28 I love them both but especially the first - great low viewpoint :-)
jet28 · 2008-01-10: 02:04
rolpa Two fabulous landscapes - both with wonderful foregrounds but in the first your eye is drawn away while in the second it (ie mine) lingers on the rocks and then takes in the whole scene. Water works well in both. I have a slight preference for the second.
rolpa · 2008-01-10: 03:25
photopoet Rivers are incredibly soft spoken or raucous. Slow to move or rapid. And you captured two aspects of the river. I like the effect of milky water, but my being resonates to the more water that appears more like water. I really like the perspective of the first photo. My eye keeps moving back and back.
photopoet · 2008-01-10: 08:12
SheriJ Nice choice in shutter speeds. Don't know about anyone else, but I think if you make the water look milky in a winter shot wouldn't it appear to be washed out or blown out?? Or blend in with the white banks?? I myself like the color of the water in #1 great choice. And hey it's your photo!!
SheriJ · 2008-01-10: 08:23
Estel Lovely set. The first one is my favourite because of the way you framed it. Keep up the great work :)
Estel · 2008-01-10: 11:05

chrisfly · 2008-01-11: 11:30

starryeyedfrog · 2008-01-11: 15:10
mattandbranson Love, love the composition of #2! You have a special skill with including lots of foreground in reaching landscapes like this. Wonderful!
mattandbranson · 2008-01-15: 11:21
kware I loe the framing/composition of the second photo - it's beautiful!
kware · 2008-01-15: 17:03
