Nice work there speedy! Great story to go with the pics. I like the lines on the monorail shot. You aren't kidding about the cranes in Seattle & especially Bellevue! They're everywhere! Anyway, cool crane shot with the fading sunlight and contrasting colors!

Sounds like they all had ant's in their pants!.......Well done for working under such pressure....Personally I buckle when I'm on time constraints and start to get very agitated...but I'm not here to talk about myself and my crazy personality disorders..Ill save that for your guest book. I adore the swirly whirly merry go round....I did a similar shot back in the City Lights post. i like that you captured it with lights on but still during the daylight..Im assuming it was dusk? No time for composition in #2?. Look at how the rails line up in the frame!? SPOT ON! The fact that your entire family continued to leave you desolate without a second thought made me chuckle..

oh i LOVE the second shot in this set Mat - awesome capture - the framing is superb, as Andrea has already pointed out :) So well done!! The crane is very interesting too, I like the contrast in colours. From that wide shot it almost looks like a Meccano set :)

love both of the motion shots and the yellow in the last shot...its funny, the top two photos contrast with the last one...sort of like the tortoise and the hare.

Love these shots, Mat - and LOVE the title of your post! It's always great to start the day with a giggle. I love the movement of the carousel. I've got a list of photography ideas, and on that list is to hit the fair next time it comes to town - especially for some night shots. The monorail shot is excellent as well. The crane reminds me of one that I see every morning on my way to work. I've been trying to figure out a creative way to photograph it. I like what you've done!

that merry-go-round.... i saw it and all i could picture was centripital force slinging kids off as it spun. we both had physics posts this week. =)

I love your quick shots. My dad was a crane operator when I was little. He took me up in the cab one time, everytime the boom moved so did we. I felt that we would tip over and fall off the edge. I hated it and dad just laughed at me.

I know how they got that far ahead ..you were caught up in photographer's time.. it's the same time warp I stay in ..I am taking shots and everyone I am with is down the road.. the first shot made me dizzy Mat ... in all honesty it's a wonderful shot ... I love the action you feel in it... the perspective of the 2nd one is great .. Happy Leap Day /year ...Leap ahead ...:)

I actually really like the monorail shot.... great carousel also! It's good when you're having too much fun to worry about photos!

i love the motion blur and the light in the first one! although carousels kind of creep me out because they are used so often in creepy movies - but i remember loving them as a kid and spending far too much time picking out which horse i wanted to ride. i wasn't even a horse kind of gal - but it was really important for some reason :-) Chicago has been taken over by cranes too!! we has SO much construction going on - i always avoid them in my photos (or try to) but maybe now that i know there are people that like them, i'll try to shoot a few. and i'm very jealous of how nice the public transportation looks. i think the train cars i ride in to work (and everywhere else, and busses) are about 100 years old. i'm actually kind of afraid when some drivers go to fast that we are going to just tip over and fall off the track when we go around curves... i think i'm the only one that thinks that though because no one else seems as terrified as i am most of the time!

I've seen so many blurry carousel shots, Mat, but this one definitely stands out. I don't remember being able to see the up-down movement of the horses on other shots before. I think 1/4 was the perfect time for this photo. Simply fantastic. Second one, for a P&S, is really impressive. Sometimes, those instinctive shots come out the best. And this is a good example. Very impressive point of view, by the way. And I really like the colors and light in the last one. Great set, my friend.

Great set! Number 2 is an awesome shot! I'm really liking your urban shots. BTW, I've always liked cranes, too! Maybe that should be a theme one week.

Great shots once again. Construction cranes are a great sign in my eyes. More cranes means more work for electricians like me. lol

The motion blur in the first one is fantastic! The monorail one is really nice too. Did you get pics of the crane that was on top of the new Narrows when they were building it? I can't imagine being the person who operated that sucker.

Very cool. Sometimes impromptu is the best. If you love cranes you would love my brother! He is one of the top crane inspectors for Cal-OSHA here in California. The new span of the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge is tower crane rich. He is the man who permits them & inspects them by walking every inch of them.
