Wonderful set! BIFs are a lot of fun to photograph, maybe because of the extra challenges involved. The second is my favorite, the fuzzy back ground really makes the wigeon look really neat!

Great shots Mat. #1 is my favorite. You make photos of birds looks easy. I know you can't wait until your trip. Have a great time. And guess what that package that I told you about is arriving today. LOL :)

awesome. all of them. i love how elegant the wigeon in #1 looks. #2 is such a fun photo with the movement and the focus on the bird. and #3 is probably my fav with those great feathers! great captures - and get to that flytying!! we'll totally understand - but only if you promise to post a lot of photos from your trip when you get back! :-)

Excellent shots! I know what you mean about the difficulty level. I had a similar problem trying to capture SIF (squirrel in flight) for yesterday's post for the same reasons - plus, I was shooting through a window! :-)

WOOO-HOOOO You ROCK #1 is so FANTASTIC!! Dang Mat you got the grab on the Wigeon for sure I know how hard it is to catch a duck in flight!! Their wing speed is amazingly fast!! WOW I am so glad you had the light you needed to freeze the Wigeon!! A BIG HIGH 5 TO YOU my friend!! Can't wait for you to get back already from your trip and you haven't even left yet! I can't wait to see all the great snaps you will have from your trip!! Have fun!!! I WANT MY CAMERA BACK!!! ;(

Ok so I guess number 1 is alright.....I mean, the placement of the Wigeon is pretty good, it's in focus and all that.......the movement in its wings in 3 looks alright I suppose......#2 is also ok..... hehehehe......ok these are all fabulous!..having attempted BIF a couple of times I know what a challenge it is!!...#2 must have been a thought tough shot. how on earth did you spot it in amongst all the branches?!?!?!..it's almost camouflaged in there..but the sharpness of your shot brings it right out! So well done....BIG pats on the back for you :) I bet your pegging for that trip!! How long are you going for?

If it looks like a duck and acts like duck....its a duck.... Great shots! Are you preparing for underwater action trout shots?

Well, I think you did amazingly well! Only, I didn't know we had to "confess" about cropping!?!?! I really need to read the rules! :-) Great results!

Oh Mat!!! What a fabulous set you posted today!!! I just love them all, especially since I'm totally into these kind of shots (movements) lately. You're so right when you say that it takes a lot of patience -and shots- to get the shot. And let me tell you: You really did get the shot! #2 is simply wonderful. I really can't wait for spring anymore to snap ducks and other birds!!! (...and you don't help it! ; )

I was thinking WIF is what is flying? Very cool. Great job. I drive through a bird sanctuary in the Sacramento Valley on a regular basis & will occasionally stop to shoot the Tundra Swans & the Snow Geese. You live in a target rich environment for birds too I see!!

Why tie today, what you can tie tomorrow? : ) These are really great shots hun! You are right, this was great fun. It reminded me of playing the old Duck Hunt game on Atari, except with a camera! At least the pesky dog didn't come out to laugh at us when we missed our shots. lol

I can imagine how difficult it was! Looking at especially the 2nd, I am amazed. Looks fantastic with the blurred forest, you really feel the speed of the bird. You must be a patiente guy, Mat, never give up, and finally awarded with such great results!

These are wonderful! Wow, wow, wow! I am so bad at photographing anything that moves! LOL! Actually I got a few decent bird pics when we took Em to the Lou...I was pretty proud of myself! Perhaps I will post them tomorrow...

Thanks for your comment. Your birds are prettier than mine. It is very hard to get those BIF in focus. Only for this case I am not happy with my D40x’s 3 focus point. I like#1 most. #2 is also nice but the backgroud is distracting
