Dreams of Far Away Places - Theme

2008.03.18

=================================================
So, what does a Trout Bum with too little time on his hands, too much prep work to accomplish over the next 10 days and a list of shots he wants to get whilst flyfishing in Montana (yes, he is writing them down!) do for a theme post regarding far away destinations? Well, he practices some of those shots that he wants to get sans pressure ... that's what!

These are just a few quick snaps of Reilley and Connor holding Rei's stuffed brown trout, and a hand painted trout ornament that we had hanging in my office. During this year's trip, we're vowing to get some different shots than all the previous years. We're actually making lists of shots (albeit a short list currently!) that we'd like to take during the trip. These 'test shots' may be similar to those I'll be posting some time in April! See if you remember these later on ...

Thanks for all of your encouraging words on yesterday's post. It does make me feel badly to not have the time to put into your posts of late, but believe me, I NEED this vacation! =)

Mat

focussed I love that your doing practice shots with a stuffed trout..hahaha....really good idea though to plan the shots so thoroughly. I remember you saying I had given you some ideas when I did my one and only fishing post a little while ago. Im really looking forward to seeing what you come up with! Have you been looking at plenty of fishing magazines to steal some good ideas? So far Id say its going to be some very interesting stuff...actually feels a little like the engagement shoot with all that wonderful DOF .....

Peche I love the second shot so much, the dof, the angle and the point of focus :) Very nice.
And the shots with your boys and the stuffed trout - gold!! Shows the connection and love of fishing in your family and the love you all have for a good trip.
Very much looking forward to seeing the photos in a month's time, Mat! :)

basisimages Nice post. What a challenge! Good luck (or do fisher-folk 'break a leg'? I mean, they do share something with the acting profession...)

majikmonkee Awesome...#1 is about as close as I ever want to get to a trout that's not cooked!

Don't feel bad about taking vacations...those little breaks are what keep us from going insane (well, I know it does for me).

TamaraHarden Aw, that little stuffed trout is TOO cute. Vacations......they are SO worth it. Have a wonderful trip. :)
TamaraHarden · 2008-03-20: 01:02
dweiskir Very cool shots and good idea. I do the same thing when I'm preparing to shoot portraits, I need to do that with other shots, too. It helps me remember them when I'm in the middle of all the excitement of shooting, otherwise I'm liable to forget some of the poses I really wanted to get.

And you're really making me crave trout. I like to clean them, but off the heads, throw in some butter, lemon and pepper, wrap them in foil and throw them on the grill. Yeah, now I'm hungry.
dweiskir · 2008-03-20: 10:18
picturemom Great shots, have to admit - when I'm having a bad day your shots usually give me a giggle, the first shot took me off guard then made me laugh! Have a great vacation can't wait to see the pictures!
