Goosed Again!

2008.04.15

Walking on water!

You ought to try this maneuver yourself! =)

Isn't this girl a beauty?!

This is the look I got when I was getting a little TOO close for her! Can't you just see the attitude?!

As Vollenda said in her recent post ... Its fascinating how different water can look depending upon what is over it, and what angle you shoot it from. Contrast this shot with the first one where the water is almost a Neon Green from the sun shining off of some wonderful overhanging trees.

Imagine how close you have to be, albeit with a 300mm lens, to get the entire head and beak in a landscape shot?

Look at the beautiful downy feathers she's used to build her nest. Man, I just think she's gorgeous!

Taken today ... and probably my favorite of the set. I love the little feather sticking up from her back ... and the feathers sticking out of her beak.

Also taken today. What would a Mat post be without just a little whimsey?

Okay, I know today's theme is 'Garden' and its an AWESOME theme, but Lindy! said it's okay to post something different on Theme Day! Perhaps I'll just add that I'd love to have nesting waterfowl in my garden! =)

I felt inspired to post these after viewing some recents posts from our good friend Vollenda. If you haven't had the opportunity to visit one of the most talented photographers out here, please, you owe it to yourself to go visit her blog! Of course ... she has over 10k comments, so she's hardly a stranger! =)

These are some recent shots of geese at our local park. The vast majority of these shots are of a beautiful nesting little girl who let me get quite close to her. I was careful not to stress her out unnecessarily, and she let me know when I was getting TOO close. I've seen this little darling over the past couple of months, and absolutely cannot wait to see her goslings when they hatch.

Most of these shots are pretty tight in camera crops ... its not everyday that you can get quite THAT close to such a beautiful bird, and let's just say, I took advantage!

ncshutterbug These are so awesome. Amazing. I've never been able to take any like this. I can't wait to see the goslings either, because I know you'll do an incredible job capturing them. :)

vollenda Wow, she let you get incredibly close! She is a stunner. Her feathers are gorgeous! You did a great job capturing her beauty. #7 (the reflection in her eye is amazing) and #9 (for the tufts of feathers too) are my favorites. And love her feet. :) I hope you get a chance to capture her goslings with your lens!

Thanks for the shout out, Mat!

TamaraHarden Oh, yes, can't wait to see the little ones. I imagine they will be so cute!! If you ever want to shoot geese, ducks and other birds, the entrance to Sunrise up here has a TON!!! By the fountains. They never leave. Just watch where you step.

focussed I enlarged #7 and found a very nice little reflection hiding in goosey's eye ;)
I love the fact that you refer to momma goose as a "little darling"..hehe...very sweet indeed....Seems like she may have built some sort of trsuting relationship with you and she may just let you get exclusive pics of her little babies when the time comes. I just hope she doesnt charge millions like Jennifer Lopez for those first baby shots;)
My fav in this set has to be the last one......animals feet fascinate me ;)
focussed · 2008-04-16: 05:33
majikmonkee Wow! I love 3, 5, and 9, but they are all fantastic! That's the closest I ever want to get to a goose, and I can safely say the closest up I've ever seen one! Awesome!

TheCrazyCroat I am so not a bird person and #1 has me screaming. It's beautiful with the reflections. The blue-green water is amazing!

Nice work!

Peche Ooooooh Mat!! :)
Great great set! I was starting to miss the water fowl sets you had going there for a while ;)
It's hard to pick a favourite, and as I view these shots I'm getting lens envy... from the exif I can see 300mm - what sort is it, if you don't mind me asking?
Personally, I love #10 - the detail and texture of the feet against the muted ground just has so much clarity on contrast.
Nice one! :D
Peche · 2008-04-18: 03:33
