This kid's glasses and facial expression just had me rolling.

Does this remind anyone of TCC's Big A?

This is Reilley. A little tough to see without enlarging ... but he's got his eyes completely closed! I said Reilley, you have to keep your eyes open when you swing! He said "Dad, I was blinking!" He did hit the ball, and this is actually after he hit it ... but still ...

This one looks like it may have been slightly out of the strike zone!

Look at the determination on the face of these youngsters. Even at ages 7 and 8 you can see how expressive they can be.

This is our coach's son. Check out HIS face in these next 3 frames! Hilarious.

This one just cracked me up. An Ichiro wannabe. This kid was wearing his shades backwards, and when he turned to look for the ball, and these glasses were staring at me ... well, I just had to snap.

I'm not sure what this look is! Is it fear?! Whatever it is, I LOVE it!

Okay, Reilley left his eyes open this time ... after the little conversation with Dad.

Springtime means Baseball! And before the first game of the season, everyone has the opportunity to go undefeated. Unfortunately someone has to lose. For the '08 Cardinals though, the chance of going undefeated throughout the season is alive and well, as we won our first game tonight 24-9!

These are a small handful of shots (could be a large handful depending upon the size of your hands. Me personally? I have small hands! Am I a dork or what?!) that I took tonight.

I'm constantly getting on Heidi for leaving her camera on, when connected to the pc after transferring our pics (I know ... I know ... what's a technical manager doing transferring pics to his pc without a card reader?!) which drains the batteries something fierce. As we're getting ready, I grabbed my camera, along with Nikky, and you guessed ... I left my camera on after transferring pics to the pc! The battery was completely dead. D'oh!

So, I took my battery charger to the game, and during the pregame warmups, plugged the charger into the outlet in the bathroom which gave me enough time to get about a 25% charge. Enough to get that small or large handful of shots!

I'm getting more and more used to Nikky, and what a joy it is to shoot at 2.8. I love it! If you ever get the opportunity to shoot some fast glass, please do it, you'll only understand its power after you try!

veganess Ewww, the arm on that boy in #2, it just looks wrong. Like his arm really isn't attached to him. Great action shots, you should print out 5x7's all thru the season, and sell them at the game........like they do on cruise ships. They take pics of you coming and going, and then when you see your pic up on the board, of course you're gonna buy it!! Ka-ching!! Pocket change.

coyoteself I don't have enough time to comment on each shot. But they're all very good and the expressions on the kids are priceless

amyschmamey Go CARDS... ;) st louis that is ;) This is a fantastic post. Awesome action shots. You are right the Coach's son's face was priceless, and the kid with sunglasses on backwards... hilarious. Great job on this one. I hope that your Cards stay undefeated. Have fun this baseball season. Great post!

TheCrazyCroat YES! Baseball! I'm so glad Little Nikky wasn't throwing a tantrum for you today. These shots are great. Lots of bat and ball action going on. Some with the ball right on the bat. Talk about timing.

#11 is one of the neatest sport shots I've seen in a long time. Was the background yellow? It looks so cool!

The pic of Reilley is absolutley priceless.

I see some future big time torque in #2. He does remind me of Antone! ::::sniff::::
TheCrazyCroat · 2008-04-29: 23:38
vollenda These are awesome! Such great expressions! You couldn't find better expressions in the majors, that's for sure! You Nikky takes fabulous pics (as does the person pushing the button!)! :)

ncshutterbug OMG what a fantastic set. The expressions are absolutely priceless, and it's so impressive that you caught so many good ones! Number 7 is absolutely perfect - that moment when the bat touches the ball - you nailed it!
ncshutterbug · 2008-04-30: 16:12
mattandbranson 11 is too funny! I love the expressions!

No cow pasture for these kids ;-P
mattandbranson · 2008-04-30: 16:12
bacco66 Amazing!
Really I don't like baseball, I have soo much difficult with it; as an European I prefer soccer (sooo obvious)

But in any case looking kids enjoing sport is the same great thing in any discipline!

Thanks for sharing, you catched some great moments!
bacco66 · 2008-04-30: 17:54

DancingDolphin These are all so funny, don't know which made me smile more the kid with the glasses, the closed eyes, or the coaches son! Fun set.
DancingDolphin · 2008-04-30: 18:21

LotoFoto These are all so great!
I especially love the clarity & crispness of #2.
You've really zoned in on capturing facial expressions and that gives a photo so much interest. Enjoyed all of these!
Looking forward to watching your kids' season!
LotoFoto · 2008-05-01: 00:39
picturemom These are wonderful, great set. You did such a wonderful job of capturing their determination!
picturemom · 2008-05-01: 19:15
mrutherford22 Awesome shots! You should send them to ESPN!

My faves include # 2 and the facial series in #8, 9, 10. The commentary on #11 is hilarious and the action that you captured in #12 is perfect. I can't wait to get to a T-Ball game to test my skills too!
mrutherford22 · 2008-05-01: 23:02
bamommy Awesome shots Mat. Isn't it fun going to watch kids play baseball. You did a fine job of capturing all the highlights.Tell Riley Congrats on the hit. Take care
bamommy · 2008-05-02: 09:33
SheriJ Mat these are awesome!! Everyone was great and the coaches son had me laughing! WOW he is way dedicated in getting home safe!! Too funny with the glasses on the kids head!! I have been looking into a fixed 400mm APO glass! Since I shoot wildlife 90% of the time. Fixed means less glass to focus thru. So far all the ratings I have been reading have been great!! Can't wait to see more games!!
SheriJ · 2008-05-05: 08:36
Jacquelyn Great pictures! I agree with Veganess, you should hand out little business cards stating the pictures can be bought at their request.Just get a photo maker going and some glossy paper and you are in business.LOL I love the expressions, this is a serious ordeal ! Don't you just love em !!
