LD!

2008.05.01
No longer nesting! LD has left the nest!

The EMPTY nest! Can you feel the anticipation building? Keep scrolling ... her little bundles of joy are coming up!

Everyone together now ... "Aaaahhhhhhh!"

You guys back there?!

This looks like a fun game. Let's crawl under mom!

That WAS a fun game!

The family (I think!)

They're here! After weeks of wondering and waiting, the anticipation is finally over. The little goslings of Lil Darlin' (so nicknamed LD by focussed!) have arrived! I am somewhat bummed as to have skipped visiting her the past couple of days (perhaps I could have captured their hatching!), but none the less, these are just a couple of days old!

I'm like a proud papa! I'm so deranged, my buddy began calling me "Father Goose"! =)

Heidi and I have decided to make another trip to the park this evening, as the sun is setting, in hopes of getting shots of them nuzzled under her wing. I'm sure I've built the vision of the shot up in my mind so much that I'll never be able to achieve it, but you can't get, if you don't try!

Mat

* Update * - I went back to check on LD and her little one's this evening and I met another person who was as equally interested in her as I was. Evidently, I did hit it right, and yesterday she was still nesting! I just wasn't able to get 'The Shot!' =)

vollenda Yeah for LD and her little goslings. :) They are adorable! So fuzzy and sweet on their little legs. Great job, Father Goose.

#5 and the last ones are my favorites of the set. Such sweet and fun moments. Sniffle. They are swimming already!

She finally did it Congrats to LD! Congrats to you for having the patience to stick it out. What a reward to see these little cuties running around!
These shots are so adorable matt. Youve captured some very sweet moments between the new family. I really could gush on and on but I really must get a move along. BTW I'll get back to that message later tonight!

ncshutterbug OMG look at those babies! They're so adorable! I will name them George and I will hug them and love them and squeeze them...ok, I won't squeeze them.

That third shot is absolutely amazing. Such clarity and focus - I just love it. Definitely front page material. They're all wonderful, and that last family shot is so sweet.
ncshutterbug · 2008-05-01: 17:51
etodd80 So cool! They finally made it into the world. Cute little buggers aren't they. You did a great job of capturing some of their first days of life. The colors in #3 are awesome. I really like how the one is totally in focus on #6 and the rest are a bit blurry walking away. I look forward to the evening shots, hope they turn out as planned!
etodd80 · 2008-05-01: 18:16
Lindyart awwwwwwwwww so so cute Mat.. you captured them so beautifully and the little game they played .. I saved several of these ...so unique..it was worth the wait ...!! your shots are clear and lovely ...these are precious .. new life :)!!!
Lindyart · 2008-05-01: 18:17
TamaraHarden Oh!! That first picture of them doesn't even look real!! It looks like an Easter card. They are so cute. You did yourself proud, grampa duck!! I love the way mama duck looks underneath herself instead of turning around to see what the munchkins are up to. I guess that is one mother who DOESN'T have eyes in the back of her head. Too cute.
TamaraHarden · 2008-05-01: 18:42

mrutherford22 I saved #6 as a favorite!! I just LOVE this post! I'm so glad LD's little guys are here. I was driving in Cleveland, OH the other day and a family of geese (mama, papa, and 7 ducklings) crossed a 5 lane highway! Every car stopped to let them pass safely. I was screaming for my Cammie. Great post!
mrutherford22 · 2008-05-01: 22:59

SorinM I like this photo-set. Is showing to us that not only the vegetation came to life but the birds are reviving as well in an amazing manner.
SorinM · 2008-05-02: 06:02
Peche Mat, this is so wonderful.
Being in the thrust of autumn here, and feeling the cold onslaught of winter approaching, it's warming to see shots of spring, and nothing represents that more than little baby animals - and these have to be the cutest goslings I have ever seen! I've not ever had the privelege of seeing them so closely and in such detail. I can imagine the excitement this must have brought you.
You did a splendid job. I still cannot fathom that you wouldn't think yourself good enough for National Geographic or a nature publication. My favoured shot is #6: I love the line of focus, the dof and the tone.
Congratulations to LD and her brood, and to you for documenting it thus far!
Peche · 2008-05-02: 06:03
photopoet Is it permissible to say—congratulations? Yes, I did say ahhhh. You've managed to involve a virtual community in this birth and the desire to follow their progress. I agree with Peche—these photos are every bit as good as those I see in nature Magazines.

My favorite—the eighth.
photopoet · 2008-05-02: 06:33
