It's a long story about history. Before 1848, slavery was in the caraibe area from South of North America until South America. The slavery of Negers started in french West Indies on 1502 and ended on 1848. Slaves used to play drums (Ka in Martinique and Guadeloupe) while working. But It was prohibited since to sell Negers was prohibited. On Dechamp's dwelling, a slave called Romain dared to play the Ka bèlè, and was kept to be judged. Those times, every one knew slavering abolition was announced in France. In many countries of Martinique, slaves started to revolt against the colonists. Then, when colonists decided to judge Romain, the revolt starded in Dechamp and went down to the capital : Saint Pierre. Realy, the slave's history and revolt are longer and complexer than that.
