One time and permanence

Ayuthaya, 86km north of Bankgok, was the royal capital from 1350 to 1767, at the apex of the kingdom of Siam, and one of the most magnificents cities in the world at that time. It was taken by the Burmese and totally sacked, after what the capital moved to Bangkok. The remanents of this glorious past, characterized by the prang (reliquary towers) and gigantic monasteries, form the rich Ayutthaya historical park. The historic town of Ayutthaya and associated historic towns are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Headless Buddha statues.

when the Burmese Army attacked Ayuthaya they killed lots of people, burned their houses and even invaded the temples burned them and cut the head and arms of the Buddha statues. Some stories said, the reason why the Burmese Army cut the head and arms of the statue it is because they thought there were gold and hidden treasure inside the body. Upto now, you can find lots of headless and armless Buddha statues within the complex.
