After World Youth Day (Sydney)

2008.07.26
St Mary's Cathedral, early morning Monday 21 July 2008. The barricades are still up, Pope Benedict is still there at a private meeting, soon to leave for the airport... the big crowds are gone.

The Papal Motorcade... taking the Pope to Sydney airport. He has just driven past us in Art Gallery Road. A few spectators came to say goodbye.

World Youth Day flags (and the other religion - sport - a blow-up Bledisloe Cup in the middle), plus Australian flags... Martin Place, Sydney

The Pope has left, World Youth Day is over... but the Spanish pilgrims are still singing hymns in Wynyard Park.

(taken with the mobile phone camera)
The next day... Tuesday 22 July 2008... World Youth Day finished two days ago, but there are many groups of pilgrims singing hymns at Manly Beach. This is a group of German pilgrims singing "Alleluia alleluia" and marching down the Corso at Manly, heading towards the beach.

After World Youth Day '08 held in Sydney... and the pilgrims were still going strong.

(Check out my previous post if you want to see a photo of the Pope.)
