Bubbles explained

2011.06.30
pixel
A glass dish, something to suspend it (in my case 2 wine cups), some colourful fabric (a shirt of Laci's), water, vegetable oil, food colouring, and my +10 close up filter.

This was not my idea, and in fact, this looks quite similar to page 73 of Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson.

This is the set up, it's quite simple really, but you get really incredible results, and no photoshopping is necessary. The only thing I would add to this is a tripod, but I was going out and didn't have time.

I ended up with large circles this time, because I used too much oil. You need to dribble the oil in from some distance to create the bubbles. I took a few shots before I added the food colouring, since once it's in the water, you can't go back.

The aperture needs to be wide open to get the shallow depth of field (blurry background). These were shot at f/5.6 and ISO 200.

Playing of party music optional.

djnana Thanks for the explanation of your fun exercise! It was the oil that made the "bubbles" in the water. You're so clever!

ASINUS Normally, I behave like a photo-hunter. I suppose, because I arrived to the photo passion, thorough the lanscapes pictures and my mountaineering activity. That's why i looking for the situation around, instead of create the killer's weapon or the scene of the crime.
I probably would have preferring to shot at the rests of the dressing into the salad bowl bottom, and preparing the set by means of a very good meal homestyle.

But really, your have a very good results in spite of your strange vinaigrette. <//;-)

Seeee youuu Marjorieee....
