Not tremendously pleased with these, but beggars can't be choosers, and it's getting late.
wait for it....
It's not like I had a lot to work with. YES, that's a potato masher, standing in as... well, as a stand. Not a very good one either. That's my wallet (sadly empty, hence the pro gear) adding stability.
One of my goals for this year is a less "macgyver-ed" studio set up.

For those unfamiliar with the term... it stems from a tv series,MacGyver, which aired in the late 80s. It followed secret agent Angus MacGyver, a scientist with a background as a Bomb Team Technician from a fictional US government agency, the Department of External Services (DXS). He was a resourceful agent with an encyclopedic knowledge of science, able to solve complex problems with everyday materials he finds at hand, along with his ever-present duct tape and Swiss Army knife. (wikipedia)

Maybe I would have been able to do more with some duct tape. :P
beth0110 duct tape for sure Marjorie!!!! very cool macro play :) you are inspiring me again..... of course, I'd have to macgyver more than you since I don't have the equipment you have ..... lol
what happened to #3?
beth0110 · 2012-01-03: 00:46
GKorts 3 went to my favs, never seen such a pitch black :-) And yes I remember him too and I admired him a lot when he build a bomb from the leftovers of 2 pizzas and a barbecue LOL. He would be proud of you. Are you already working on these soft boxes?

joycephotography Was one of my favorite shows, duct tape works on anything.

karmankwarner I ADORE MacGyver!!
This is a really interesting set of captures. I think the potato masher made a great stand. A+++ for creativity and ingenuity!!

jennyLit hahah i loved MacGyver!! and i love your shots even if they are MacGyvered:)) this set reminded me of a little orange octopus gliding through the deep dark ocean:))
jennyLit · 2012-01-03: 09:15
stabeez Nice job Marjorie.
I watched MacGyver faithfully. Gotta have some duct tape, a Swiss army knife, a length of string and a magnet. I find many of the things I need for a one time purpose are MacGyvered to save some bucks... then...
There are even some geocaches in the area called, what else, the MacGyver Series where you have to be ingenious to reach the logbook.
stabeez · 2012-01-03: 10:22
????? a paper clip and a 9v battery were always in his arsenal.

you know, you work with what you have and can afford. with some things is important to have good quality equipment that is designed for it's intended purpose but for other things a little creativity and ingenuity can go a long way.

JustmeG I really like the second shot...for some reason, I thought of the fuel rocket engine of a space ship :-))
JustmeG · 2012-01-03: 10:34

liveandletlive NEVER insinuate that MacGyver is inferior Marjorie. Lol I LOVED that show. And I think this whole set is incredibly inventive and creative. I hope you never get to technologically advanced (shit I wish this thing still spell-checked). I think it might take away from the uniqueness of your style.

renatomartins Thanks for the making of... :-) Very nice
renatomartins · 2012-01-07: 08:20

djnana MacGyver would be so proud of you! You've accomplished such amazing images with such awesome ideas! (My home is full of MacG-ish things - I'm a cheapskate at heart and I love coming up with something that works well and costs little!) I simply love #2! Did your model fall off the potato masher in #3???
djnana · 2012-01-07: 22:12
