In Louisiana in the Madi Gras tradition, a King Cake is made at this time of year to symbolize the Christ child and gifts brought to him after his birth..a "baby" is inserted somewhere inside the cake and whomever finds it in their piece of cake is considered to have a lucky year..This now, anatomically correct baby boy, was in granddaughter Tyler's piece of delicious cake..:-))

Tradition, especially in New Orleans, includes parades, king and queen throwing gifts (beads, etc. ) bizarre dress and parties (more than usual)...

MoMac Very nice tradition something like my Grandmothers birthday "clootie dumpling" a steamed richfruit cake only coins were in it.
Ps clootie was a cloth the cake was wrapped in to cook it.

josy63 I didn't know this tradition, but it's beautiful. There is some thing of similar in France: Epiphanie with pancake in which is hidden a china bean.
