It was windy as well as rainy today. This is how my house looked when I came home from work Monday night. My husband had called a little earlier to give me some warning.
Dealing with the circumstance is relatively easy. In light of the recent China earthquake it's nothing.
What gave me a stomach ache is the first words my neighbor (the wife) said to my husband when it happened. We've known the family next door for eight years and have shared some family joys and sorrows.
Her words: "You gotta call your insurance company. We're not liable."
We're alive, well, and the roof doesn't leak. I am grateful. But sad.
Update evening of 13 May: Because the tree was alive, we have learned that our neighbors were correct: they are not liable.

I'm glad no one was hurt. I hope there wasn't a lot of damage.
