موزه ایران باستان،که اکنون بنام موزه ملی ایران تغییر نام پیدا کرده، اولین موزهٔ ایران می باشد که در ابتدای خیابان ۳۰ تیر، در خیابان امام خمینی تهران واقع است. دولت ایران دستور ساخت این موزه در ۲۱ اردیبهشت سال ۱۳۱۳ ه.ش. به معمار فرانسوی، گدار، ابلاغ کرد. ساختمان موزه در سال ۱۳۱۶ به اتمام رسید و موزه برای بازدید عموم افتتاح شد. زمین اختصاص یافته به این موزه ۵۵۰۰ متر مربع بود که ۲۷۴۴ متر مربع زیربنای آن است.
