05-13-08 Under the Sea

2008.05.13
Some of the animals/plants were mosaics, some watercolor, some oil pastels...all student made.

Students were suppose to create a scene depicting Island of the Blue Dolphins, not sure how an American flag and an army jeep made it into the assignment.

We wrote ocean stories, and I just loved this artwork!

We had our last Family Night for this school year tonight. Our whole school has a general theme, and each grade level and go with it in any direction they please. We create large displays that show what we are doing in our classroom, and the parents roam throughout the halls checking everything out. They are given a paper "passport," and each grade level has to stamp that they have been past to see each grade's exhibit. At the end, parents use the passport as a ticket to receive a meal for their family.

The fifth grade has been reading Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'dell, so everything we did had an ocean theme. We didnt go all out this time, because we have to take the display down Monday! It didn't seem worth all the trouble. However, we thought it turned out pretty nice anyway.

These are very good photos, but they'll have to do. Maybe Julie got some better angles! :)

Counting down the days....

T.C.

ps- I will catch up with everyone on PB today!!!

mrutherford22 I loved Island of the Blue Dolphins as a child!! It was the first book I cried in. (When the doggie dies) I sobbed in my bedroom. I knew I was doomed to be a sap for animals from there on.

What a fun way to show the parents what your kids have been doing. Thanks for sharing!

maharba My favorite teachers were the ones that let us draw and do special projects. I'm sure that some students like that are in your care.
