Sex is currency

2008.02.06
“Graze on my lips, and if those hills are dry, Stray lower where the pleasant fountains lie”...
- William Shakespeare

In a time when currency can mean more than tangible, physical money, sex and the themes of femininity themselves have become currency.
Desperation has been born out of the blurring of borders, the dissemination of images of women through media and the popularisation of the sex culture. It seems more and more that women, for a cost, will allow themselves to be consumed... to be an object that a price can be put to.
For as long as the world has turned, sex has always been a form of currency, and understandably, more prevalent in places and situations where choice is limited and survival is imperative... selling sex and yourself is a chance at a better life.
So the question is, if situation and circumstance came down to it, and all we could rely on was our body, our sexuality, what price would we sell it for?

**This post is meant to be thought-provoking, not offensive. I apologise in advance if anyone finds this in any way gratuitous or inappropriate**

Francko Nice photo, nice lips...
B/W + Red always make a nice effect :)

about ur question:
I'm a man with one of the worst body on earth... I'll be much than poor =)
Replin to ur female question:
Why this question ?
To sell your female sexuality is a choice of life, not only a money problem.
Who sells her body do that for a non-intelligence and culture.
They sell for pleasure, then for money.
The Recipe To have a better life is:
1) to have humility.
2) to love.
3) to smile.

Having some humility u will find any other type of job.
from work the fields till a simply clerk job.

Circumstance are created by ourself, not by the destiny.

Riccaster Nice sensual hot shot !!!
... ? ... the sad thing is that sex doesn't have price it is a business.
Riccaster · 2008-02-06: 04:14
focussed This reminded me of one time when we went out for dinner and you were popping in red. Now it all makes sense to me :P ..... As for the question,...... as corny as it sounds, I would never trade my self respect for any amount of money. As francko said, it's about choices not circumstances. Everyone has a choice no matter how grave their situation may appear. Remembering that means your never forced into situations which compromise your morals or dignity...providing of course you have these to begin with.

yamaleekis Interesting frame of this picture, very sensual. Regarding your comment, but do not understand it very well, I can say that the path that we need to go to women, is still very long. Greetings

mintra I don't think one can truely answer this question ......unless they are actually in the situation.
IF....such a simple word with a magnificant meaning...there is no if in my opinion. It is eithere you are in or you are not in the situation...and that's my answer.
mintra · 2008-02-06: 07:10
photopoet Your words are thought provoking and it's simplistic to think that there is a one size fits all answer. How does anyone know what the circumstances are for anyone else? So many cultures, across the Globe, devalue and marginalize women and too many women accept their status. We could all answer no—there's absolutely no way—but , it's like many other hypothetical questions, how can any woman answer honestly unless she walks in that other woman's shoes. We always have a choice, but at times the choices become so narrow. Why, we could ask, does a man want to diminish himself by buying sex, by creating a market for sex?

Fasterbit great post, last words (**) are useless.

Lindyart I am torn by this .. I don't judge women that resort to this but I think it just highlights the concept that media wants to portray and that is women are for sex... that is the main purpose .. and sadly women out of need, desperation,or out of buying the lie have brought it. not all women but a great majority,I don't want my daughter growing up thinking well this is what the world sees me as and this is what I must be,..

you see woman on VS commercial or in movies and magazine and the majority of what is pointed out is thier looks.,yes women are sexy and beautiful but so are men.. but you don't see men thrown all over billboards in skimpy clothing and seen majorly as something to look at or have sex with and if you do it is rare ...

this is a soap box for me.. I think you raise a valid point ...

it's a beautiful shot ..

on to the head of my point.. my daughter is beautiful but she is also strong, vunerable ,smart , creative ,ect ect ect .. she will not be viewed that way by any if she follows the current "role models" and view that most of the world has out there of women...

give us credit and look deeper..

as far as selling myself to better my world I can't say because I have never been that desperate ..

but I think I'd rather be desperate than to give up who I really am.. very thought provoking Jessica ..

Lindyart · 2008-02-06: 08:54
rmjannette jessica - i think you are speaking the truth here and I love the sensual visual along with your words-
maybe because i am an american i am too aware of the violence that goes along with sex & i fear for women that are forced into that choice, be it by circumstance and/or destiny - maybe they are one in the same ? yes, thought provoking and an age old topic

Primavera Wow!Great shot!

What it would be worse: sell your body or your soul?
Primavera · 2008-02-06: 12:18
lexlevans great post! it IS very thought-provoking. I think it is all very interesting - i hear horrible things about poor women (sometimes girls) who are forced into a scary world of using their bodies and sex 'as currency' to survive. it breaks my heart to hear about women who are lured to a country where they don't know the language because someone told them about a 'great job' and then she ends up being a sex slave to them and can't escape because the only words she knows from that language are dirty saying. then on top of it all - our media is full of all these sexual images of people who are 'role models' and then you have to start to wondering where does the beauty of the human body end and indecent exposure for money start?? everyone has a different opinion obviously - but then who draws the line and when?

i bet it's neat to post something like this and see the responses!

hohlkopf great post, photo - amazing !

GuessWho I guess it is a matter of priority. I think all people who say they never would are in a lucky situation that they could not even visualize a situation where things are THAT bad that they could potentially consider it. Unfortunately for some the choice may be between food for their children or starvation. If some guy (or girl, lets be PC) was willing to provide food or money for sex I dare say they would take the offer. I'm going to make the assumption that everyone posting has a camera and internet connection which suggests such an extreme has and hopefully will never be seen.

Fali84 a good question. i do agree with the point you have raised and your own subtle opinions that you have expressed as well.
sex has become currency and not just women, young girls have been pushed into earning money for other dependents as well. i guess such a thing happens when there is poverty and illiteracy as well as the inability of the family to accept a girl child (in some cultures).
in other cases, it maybe an informed choice by the woman herself as it seems to be easy money.
I wonder if we change it though...lets just say it is part of evolution for men to think of women in a certain way.We may have progressed in terms of evolution, but genes don't lose themselves just like that! :). It's just that some women are learning to leverage that thinking to their advantage (if they consent consciously and willingly).
Realistically, when the survival instinct kicks in...some people may do whatever it takes to 'just' survive. Others may never compromise of what maybe their ideals.
Long reply I know..
nice thought provoking post

MisterMaster Es cierto.
¿No?

Amethyst Sex can be currency - absolutely - and in more ways than one.

My first response was not to think of the women who need to sell themselves to survive; I actually thought of how this concept can be applied to the lives of people actually reading this right now.

Women capitalize on their sexual power all the time:

Any female who wears a low-cut blouse to a job interview. Any woman who stays in a bad relationship for rent. Any lady who gets a man to change her tire by pretending she can't. Any girl who sends naughty photos to her boyfriend in exchange for dinner at a nice restaurant.....

It happens constantly, everywhere, and it's definitely something important to think about, not just the sexual slavery going on areas of poverty.

Thanks for this post -- your entries are always thought-provoking and deeply fascinating to me.
