An industrial beauty

2008.02.17
One of the old entrances... no longer used

The lamp at the old entrance - still lit even in the bright of day

Looking in...

All the entrances, gates... locked

The heritage gates to the tram workshop

I couldn't help but laugh at this... a bit of humour never hurt anyone ;)

The tram lines

I did take this in b&w but also took some shots in colour - and the colour does it more justice. These beautiful early 20th century barbed wire holders and the contrast with the green and blue... I liked the polarity

I have a thing for electricity lines and power poles... hmmmm

My photos are funny to Nima... I love this shot of him

Bird on a wire... he looks so tiny!

Even with all this concrete, the toughest can survive and still be beautiful

My all-time fave of Nima - I took this of him as I was trying to gauge the proper lighting for a shot outside the tram store

A wide shot of the Preston gates

Many a can litters the side of the road next to the workshops... it's not the kind of place to walk past late at night now

This old tram workshop lives just around the corner from us, and is where my boyfriend's father spent many of his working years.
The buildings, yards, sheds and surrounds are historic to the industrial past of our area and to the people who worked their entire lives within its confines.
Sometimes it's nice to look back... even if it isn't always pretty.

focussed I really love the landscape shot of Nima - #10. So natural..he looks as though he might be laughing at one of his own jokes..haha...Well done with this set Jess......we love them gritty locations!

Zedsdead intersting narrative and detail. made for a good set. best shot is your fave portrait, but i liked the bird on th wire too, just because it made me go and dig out my leonard cohen cd's. lol. ?:o)

photopoet Wonderful series—I love b&w's and urban settings—not to be confused with huge architectural behemoths planted in the major cities. My favorite is the second photo. The stark white works so well with the light.

Not Nima Oh wow that Nima character is certainly the most amazingly good looking guy I've ever seen. I bet you he is perfect in every other manner too. Wow.

BreezyOnTheEyes really great locale and interesting background story. the portraits of nima are excellent as well.

funny enough, although i love the b&w's, my favorite ended up being 8. i've never seen such a barbed wire holder before. it's so elegant for something so ominous and the color is wonderful.

KerBear This is a great set!! The one of the bird sitting on the wire stuck out to me the most! great job :)
