By the lake...

2008.04.20
One of the many aspects across Lake Burley Griffin

The coolness of Canberra can really be felt in this shot

The myriad of autumn colours

The liquid gold leaves dulled by the fading sun

Black Mountain in the distance

As I took this shot, I realised the natural light was doing something quite strange... I love the end result

A jumble of muted tones lie on the grass next to the lake

A few still fresh from falling

And a few on their way to losing their colour

The two bridges of Commonwealth Avenue leading straight to the Australian Parliament House

A kayaker braves the 4 degree weather

I just wanted to climb this beautiful tree

My mother, walking in front of me

I loved the dapple of green still left in these leaves...

And that beautiful blue sky as it clouds over for the night

Canberra will always be my true home, and going back, though fleetingly, for this past weekend, reminded me exactly why: not just my family, but the wide open spaces; the endless trees and forests; the fresh, cold air; and, for autumn.

Golden yellows, burnt reds, bright greens and muted tones everywhere, on trees and in piles, fresh to kick as you run through them. It makes any person a child again in an instant.

Due to all the family committments, we didn't have much time to venture off - but my mother and I took a quick half an hour by ourselves by Lake Burley Griffin in Acton Park, late afternoon on Sunday, just to take it all in...

Amethyst Number 6 is an *amazing* waterscape scene -- look at that lighting! You framed it perfectly. Beautifully textured leaves in 7 and 9...
And for 10... not much to say, except BRAVO! terrific photo.

#12 -- did you climb it? did you did you did you?

ncshutterbug I'm glad you had such a good time at home. This is another beautiful set, but my absolute favorite is #10. Such incredible perspective, light and color - it's perfect, and is now in my favorites.

ambersunsets Gorgeous! Although, I am enjoying spring here. Autumn is my favorite season, by far. Very lovely shots.

BreezyOnTheEyes just beautiful. this reminds me of a classic new york autumn. the colors and the smells, the crispness of the air, i can just feel it through these photos. wonderful.

i really love number six, like you said the natural light is acting strange across the water and sky, cutting the image in half, but the end product is truly intriguing.

i love each shot for it's own but do not have the energy to comment on them all! just know that i think you've done a fab job. l&h!
