Mt Beauty to Buckland Valley and across to Happy Valley - day four of our road trip

2008.04.26
The main parklands in Bright, early in the morning... you can still slightly see the low cloud

Nima ponders by the river... hehehe

Rushing waters...

Lovely, lovely browns...

The innards of a gum tree....

The view from the Tawonga Gap lookout, across to Tawonga (Mt Beauty is out of view, and to the right of shot)

This cute little man was in Mt Beauty... he was as soft to pat as he looks!

But he looked sad when I stopped giving him attention...

Buckland Valley... I love the reds...

The snobby alpacas... :P

Barwidgee Lavender Farm in Rosewhite, Happy Valley

A lavender in slight bloom

High saturation from me in this shot of dried lavender inside the house

Smiling at the thought of yummy scones

Jo's homemade scones... sooooooo yummmmmmm!!!

A cup of earl grey to set the mood...

Wicked delights... :)

I bought some dried lavender for the mothers... :)

A look across to Happy Valley from the lavender farm's porch

Happy Valley and some moo cows...

Day four of our road trip saw us ease slowly into the morning, with a walk by the river in Bright, taking in the low cloud and the colours of autumn...

We then jumped in the car and headed off to Mt Beauty, via the Tawonga Gap Road... a lovely, twisty, scenic drive that is over 120 years old... I just kept imagining negotiating it in a horse and carriage... it would have been one mean feat!

Mt Beauty was a bit uneventful, unfortunately... a fair bit of the town had been blocked off for their annual music festival and being the morning, there were no acts on as of yet... so we hopped back in the car after a brief walk around and headed back over the Gap to Buckland Valley, to see the alpacas :)

I'm quite childish, so the prospect of cute, furry and funny-looking animals and feeding them greatly excited me! :) However, animals being animals it didn't quite work out, and they were much happier feeding themselves... :(

I needed cheering up (lol, poor me!! :P) so we thought some scones were in order... it just so happened that the waitress in the pizza restaurant in Bright had told us one night earlier on, that there was a new lavender farm that did the best devonshire tea in the north east.. quite a claim, and one we felt we should definitely test out...

Barwidgee Lavender Farm didn't disappoint... it was just stunning... and such a lovely way to end the day :)

etodd80 More pretty stuff, I really like #1, bridges like that make such good photos! The lavender in #12 is great too. Those scones are making my mouth water, very nice! Alpacas are such funny looking animals, I like the shot of them. Nice color.

focussed Scones!!.....We also indulged in some jam and cream activities on the weekend. My scone pics are scheduled for posting tomorrow night...lol....what is it about this time of year that screams scones and country side?!
I love how the little pony's head looks so big in #8 compared to his stumpy legs.......Reminds me of me and my stumpy short legs...if only I were as cute as he is!

Emma Another beautiful set. I'm with Andrea - those scones look delish!!

The trees in #9 remind me of flames and those alpacas are so cute!

I also love the delicacy of the lavender you have captured.

mystic1 Too cool, snobby lama's?

Amethyst 4, 16, and 19 really draw me in... for some reason, my favorites seem to always be the really simple, almost minimalistic images...

Do you ever use Photoshop? I wonder what #19 would look like with some "shadow/highlight" effect on it ( i.e. Shadow/Highlight tutorial ).

BreezyOnTheEyes clearly, i am not partaking enough in the scone festivities. i may well have to fly into Victoria, just for some fabulous snacks.

i love your narrative regarding the alpacas. hilarious. nick was the same way in peru when we were at machu picchu. he wanted to take one home and i had to tell him that it just wouldn't work out.

not to be redundant, but this is another wonderful set. the pony is too cute, those scones are too tasty looking and all that lavender is too beautiful. fantastic all around, as per.

ncshutterbug Another great set. I'm loving this road trip! Beautiful colors and scenery (#19 is gorgeous). The pony was so sweet, as were the alpacas. I have to tell you - before this, I had always seen alpacas when their heads were upright. I've never seen them grazing, oddly enough. So, I have to admit, at first glance they looked like deformed sheep to me! I was about to ask what kind of sheep they grow in Oz! :)

Those scones are SO yummy looking. I want one!

mclps So great! I can smell the lavender now. And I want to eat those scones! :)

oldbabe I'd be in heaven on a lavender farm! I can smell it now! I used to have quite a patch of it and made lavender wands with it. But, most have died now and I'm hoping to start a new patch.

Ok, I can smell the scones too. Yummm.
