After Dark

2008.05.24
A lamp, lonely, leans in the bandroom

An empty stage, as soundcheck goes on

The boys walking up High Street

Espresso martinis

Ooh, so disapproving...

Mel checks out the photography on the bar's walls

Mel

Damn, it was cold...

I love unguarded moments like these...

Strike a pose...

A bicycle would have come in handy to get up that hill!

Two of the Laura Jean Trio

The end...

Saturday night, this weekend just past, was my first night out in quite a long time.

I went out with my best mate, and my boy, for dinner, drinks and a band's album launch at a local pub.

My health has, and unfortunately, is still holding me back, so this was a rare treat. Naughtily, I even indulged in my favourite drink: an espresso martini :)

This set was all about challenge: challenge for me to stay out and awake; and a challenge to shoot creatively with minimal light.

I happily welcome any suggestions/constructive criticisms :)

snappy They are simply wonderful and hopefully you're getting better.
I've to try this kind of martini, it looks delicious!

oldbabe Oh, I'm so sorry to hear you are still having health problems. I hope it's nothing very serious. Even extremely healthy it's a challenge for me to stay awake at night. I rarely see a sunset now that it's light out until about 9 pm or so.

I like #2, the Laura Jean trio and the bicycle. I can see them all well enough!

Emma Jess, glad to hear you had a nice night out - you deserved a good night out! Shooting at dark/low light is always difficult, but with your unique style, you make these shots work so well.

#5 is great; I just love his expression. However I can't believe you were allowed to post it ;)

I really like #9, 11 and 12 :)

jim7221 Hmmm... critisism??..... where to begin..... ha ha ha!!.... kidding, of course!!
I truly like this set.... did you ever use the flash; it isnt apparent.... as such this strikes me as pretty damn good photography... little if no blur, nicely composed... and the whole set tells of a good night out!!.... the shot of your 'boy' (i love that... i 1st thought that meant you had a kid!!... must be an aussie reference to a partner??) is brilliant... he gave you a good portrait there.... question is; did he like it??
ps- just read 'emma's comments above.... that kinda sums up what i was thinking; she puts it a little better i think...LOL
Oh... and guess what... I am smiling for you... great post, great story.... if I didnt know a 'little' of you id say you were full of energy!!.... maybe, essentially, you are..... bless you, my good friend.... keep having fun.
Smashing........... ;))

PaperWings · 2008-05-28: 11:44
Lindyart I love the last shot sooooooooooooooo much ...such mood and that is too funny ,two of the trio... I am sorry you are still struggling.. life seems to slow so much when you feel bad ..please do as much JOY things as you can..it releases chemicals that help your body to fight...
Lindyart · 2008-06-04: 10:59
mrutherford22 Beautiful shots in challenging lighting!!! I despise low light....only because it really challenges us as a photographer...especially because I can't quite afford the equipment that apparently eliminates that challenge! ;) You did great. My favorites are #2, 4, 6, 10 and 12. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy a night.
