Renwick, Corcoran and some local exteriors

The Renwick Museum is part of the Smithsonian.

I like the Renwick's interpretation of the Grand Salon much better than that in the new American wing at the MFA in Boston. There are no outstanding works in the gallery and not many names I recognized but it does go to show that 19th century American art goes beyond Copley, Peale and Sargeant.

A good portion of the museum space is devoted to American craft. Although this face is part of a much larger work, how could just ignore it?

I saw her sister in Paris.

Loved this Remington. Sixteen legs but only 6 hooves touching the ground. Check out the horse on the left ; his feet aren't touching at all.

Lots of little gems in the Corcoran such as this early Renoir.

We are here for the museums; it's too cold for much else. This trip we are hitting places that we haven't been before. Today, we rode the Metro to the Farragut West stop and hit the Renwick Gallery and the Corcoran Museum, both of which are along 17th St in the vicinity of the White House.
