This is an amazing set, Rowan. I love all of them, and thank you for giving us a glimpse of everyday life in a culture so different from mine. I especially love #8 (such great DOF) and #10. I'm a bit confused - I thought you lived in Australia and were visiting China?

Can you please tell me about the first photo? I hesitate to guess what it depicts -- performance art? leisure activity? As I scroll down through your vivid images, I appreciate, in adition to each of the shots themselves how you have arranged them. The 2 shots of game pieces (I love how the first one focuses up close and then blurs into the background -- as with the blue characters a few shots later). The inflated animal vendor followed by the similarly seated vendor of live turtles and rabbits made me chuckle! And I just love the portraits you've captured. Is the young man holding up an egg? Such an engaging series! Thank you!

great photos! #20 is in my favorites :) to be honest I could put there much more, but that's the one I like at most.

Hi gderuiter, Thanks for your nice comments. The first pic is actually just childrens leisure activities. Each of the balls has a rope attached so if they pop and sink they can get hauled back in before drowning. LOL. Go figure. I also appreciate how youve noticed the arrangement. I put alot of effort into the arrangement, as it can really affect the impact of the pictures. The man is in fact holding up a quails egg. They are sold cooked on sticks, 4 at a time. Thanks again for your comments, more to come! Rowan :)

This is one of most beautiful posts I've seen to date. The photos you've taken are like a window into this culture and are so eloquent! And your arrangements are always so perfect. It's apparent that you take the time to present your pictures in a particular way that makes each set flow smoothly together. You have a wonderful talent!
