The title is from a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes called The Iron Gate
The gates here are all in rural France.
I was minded to return to rural France (well there has been a lot of London recently) because of an article in Friday's Independent newspaper which was about a mayor in rural France and all the jobs he does and how localised it is.
Of course Sarkozy wants to change it all because its expensive and do away with all these little places and have super communes ! Just like England - Wow!
But of course that happened here a while back - and the result...
It is awful!
People have completely lost any sense of pride and belonging. Its a mess! and responsible for many ills .
So I for one hope that things do not change in France and we can continue to look and enjoy these rural idyls now and always.
That is one lovely post! I didn't know Sarkosy was planning any of that... I like the old rusty gates! Even though no gate is even better. As in the last photo!
