Two blogs ago I was writing about St. Andrew-by-the-Wardrobe and though I explained about its origins I forgot to mention its most famous parishioner, one William Shakespeare, who lived in the parish for 15 years.

Across the river from St Andrews is Shakespeare's Globe - the lovely replica of a true Shakespearian theatre and a few hundred yards downstream is the replica of the Golden Hind.

Golden Hind, captained by Sir Francis Drake, circumnavigated the world between 1577 and 1580. William Shakespeare lived between 1564 and 1616 - what a golden age it was!

It was a cloudy day when I took these pictures and somehow the the galleon looks rather special - even in its very modern setting.
