Symbolism

I have to confess that I am very fond of this photograph. It has been lying around in the file marked 'blog' ever since I began the blog last August. But it was only recently when I was looking at symbols for a drawing - later to be used for moon ceremonies - that I started to see the symbols and their significance.

All the more strange as I have stayed in this house more than once and walked its floor many, may times. It is made in the local tradition, called Koklaki, small white and black pebbles in different patterns - and is on Rhodes as you may have guessed. I suspect some zodiac symbols have been used for many generations, but these are modern and were laid by the couple that renovated the house some years ago. It is a dreamy place to stay and is pretty important to me as it was one of the first places from which I started to escape my previous life and what is best described as a dysfunctional relationship.

Hence another form of symbolism.

Things have of course moved on - the relationship is over and has been for a while now and I am slowly coming to terms with myself - in a positive way I hasten to add. I have done the bachelor existence, I have flat dwelt in a rather remote way and have moved on from that to my current status - single, happy, sharing a house with a friend, but leading very separate lives. It suits me. But I do feel the need for a more developed relationship again, I think it is time to experiment, explore, and enjoy! It's just finding the right person! I don't want to get into a mess again - once bitten definitely twice shy!

DancingDolphin I think it is important to be happy with who you are and what your life is before you look for someone to share it.... what person (that you would want!) would be looking for an unhappy, unfulfilled mate?!?! :-) Sounds like you are on the right track!

GREAT photo... I'd love to spend some time there myself!

Oh, and I also agree with sjasf.... go to Greece.... stay in a traditional cave house in Oia (Santorini) overlooking the caldera. OR start that wine tasting group!

meiling Agree completely with DD. You've got to be happy about yourself, who you are, your beliefs, etc before someone else comes along, as otherwise it may well be another dysfunctional relationship. I remember a very old saying which I reflect on often: "Before things change you must first change" –– might have been an Oriental saying ...

Best of luck, Bob.
