The Regent's Canal at Camden Lock

2008.06.21

Camden is full of people but yet you have only to set foot on the canal towpath and an air of tranquility descends.

there are 2 sets of locks at Camden - hard work!

Some truly whacky architecture!

The first part of the Regent's Canal - from Little Venice to Camden opened in 1816. But it took a further 4 years for that section to be joined to the Thames.

In my own little project to walk from Little venice to Limehouse I too have reached Camden.

1820 was the year King George III died and was succeeded by the Prince Regent - (George IV) who had given his permission for the canal to be use his name.

When you think of Regency houses- and particularly those by Nash which grace Regent's Park it is hard to imaging what Camden has become today!

jenjung the street pics, 2-6, really reminds me of South Street in Philadelphia.

Great set. I've never seen a canal at work before!
