Back on the Regent's Canal.

It is quiet now, and apart from cyclists (I was on a special cycling day) it was very tranquil as I went the last half a mile to final destination in London's Docklands, Limehouse Basin.
The Basin was originally a busy dock, linking cargoes that came by sea and up the Thames to the inland waterway system. At the time it was large enough to accommodate sea-going vessels which were much smaller then of course (1820). It used to be packed solid, such that you could walk from one side to the other by jumping from one boat to the next. Here the barges would unload and then load again before setting of back up the canal and then on to the Grand Union and places all over England.

Now the basin is trendy, packed with designer apartments and, alongside the traditional narrow boats other pleasure craft.

But we are not finished yet ! I still have not reached the Thames.

AlexandraPechabaden Does that mean after it's finished, there won't be anymore buildings pictures?

????? Robert, your building are too new and clean for Claude :-)

Have you noticed as you reviewed these images all the new buildings, while sometimes interesting in themselves, don't actually blend into a unified landscape/cityscape. There are all individual "statements", competing with what was already there and the contemporaries - shouting for attentions.

Am I getting old and senile, I'm starting to thinks old "Charlie boy" (Prince Charles in case anyone didn't get my drift) has a point in the comments he makes about modern architecture. Modern stuff doesn't need to look like new Georgian or Victorian, but does it have to act like punk rockers and shout vulgar abuse at everything around it?

Sorry Robert, I seem to be commandeering your blog, excellent pictures and they've made me think.
