Horta - which basically means 'greens'.
Horta's main claim to fame is that when the Germans invaded the islands, they rounded up all the livestock for themselves but refused to eat horta - so the locals lived off it, and very nutritious it is too!! |
Um er - amidst all this gourmet food here is a plate of chips - not ordered by me - but they were delicious all the same!

This dish was amazing! Lamb cooked in the oven with potatoes, aubergine and onion and topped with melted cheese! Wow!

The restaurant was closing for a half day when we were there but you can still get the feel of what a splendid place it is.

It seems very tasty and they seem my kind of cuisine with all those weird looking green (capers?!) on top of things; though... The presentation of the dish is about as much as I could do with cooking, I mean, they don't make much of an effort, do they! (even with the previous days blog) but that is what I call food for taste, and not food for looks. I totally agree with it, even though those like you have taught me that food which is prettily presented tastes even better! I can't be asked, just shuve things on a plate and eat it, but... This is like proper countryside cooking. Family stuff. It seemed like a feast!

I like the look of the chips, and the lamb, but I'd have to pick around the aubergine, can't stand the stuff after being over-fed by a veggie friend on the stuff. Nice colours though.
